RAWALPINDI: To expedite the divestment process of Pakistan Internationwide Airlines (PIA), the CEO has cancelled the scheduled off days on Saturday and Sunday and instructed senior officers to report back to their workplaces, together with the related departmental basic managers and their groups, to finish duties.

The CEO’s directives have been communicated by way of e-mail to all GMs. The e-mail stated the CEO chaired a gathering on Sunday afternoon to assessment the tempo of labor assigned for the divestment.

The IT officers have been directed to stay current within the boardroom to attach and facilitate on-line conferences.

As the nationwide flag service is experiencing billions of rupees in losses, the federal government has announced privatisation plans for the debt-ridden PIA together with outsourcing airport operations.

The announcement has sparked panic and concern among the many airline staff about their jobs and pensions, main them to plan resistance and protests in opposition to the transfer.

Meanwhile, Senator Raza Rabbani of PPP has said that PIA may be viable if supplied with skilled administration.

The current administration is unable to grasp the dynamics of a contemporary aviation business, he added.

PIA’s Senior Staff Association General Secretary, Safdar Anjum, informed Dawn that PIA was progressing within the Nineties when there was no interference from political governments that inducted non-skilled people and didn’t add extra plane to the fleet, resulting in the onset of issues.

He blamed the current PIA administration for failing to handle the present monetary disaster.
